Cyrus sends Dido and her people a trade emissary carrying fine Persian crafts in hopes of learning more about the Phoenician kingdom. Upon accepting, Dido sends a delegation of her own to Persia, who was received with open arms by Cyrus himself. The Phoenician envoy, however, holds skepticism of how much trust to invest in the Persian king.

The scout, who was traveling along the endless and meandering Karun River, climbs a hill at the river's bend and sees the territory below is teeming with barbarians. To avoid harm, he quickly crosses the river into a nearby forest. There, he comes across a warrior from Yerevan, a nearby pious city-state.

The Phoenician warrior intercepts another barbarian scout approaching Tyre from the east, along the Beirut River.
